Postdoctoral Fellows
Dr. Amarjyoti Das Mahapatra earned his BSc in Chemistry from Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Centenary College, Rahara, Kolkata, in 2013. He obtained his MSc and Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Gandhinagar in 2021. He served as a postdoctoral researcher at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany, from 2022 to 2023. In July 2023, Dr. Amarjyoti Das Mahapatra joined our laboratory as an Institute Postdoctoral Fellow (IPDF). His ongoing research is centered on the design and development of anticancer molecules utilizing covalent inhibitors and proteolysis-targeting chimera (PROTAC) technology. Sona Tiwari did her Bachelors in Chemistry from Rajkiya P.G. College, Mau, Uttar Pradesh and Masters in Chemistry at Jiwaji University, Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. Currently, she is a PhD research scholar (Jan 2019) working on employing electrophilic small molecules for cysteine and lysine profiling using chemical proteomics. Viral Rawat received BSc and MSc in Chemistry from CSJM University, Kanpur (2012-2017). He joined our lab in Aug 2019 as Ph.D. student. Viral research work is focused on developing tyrosine-targeting electrophilic small molecules. Besides research, he likes to write poems & stories and plays cricket & Chess. Dharmendra Yadav has a bachelors degree from VBSPU University Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh and masters degree in Chemistry (Organic Chemistry Specialization) from Dr. RMLA University Faizabad, Uttar Pradesh. He is currently a PhD scholar at IIT Kanpur where he is developing Chloroacetamide-based covalent small molecule inhibitors to target cancer phenotype. He can be reached at [email protected]
Sai Kumari Vechalapu did her B.Sc. in Biotechnology from Andhra University and M.Sc. in Biotechnology from IIT Indore. Sai joined at IIT Kanpur in July, 2020. Her research interest revolves around the application of chemistry in addressing the problems of biology. She is working on liquid-liquid phase condensation in the living systems by using small molecules. Apart from research, she is very interested in culinary arts and enjoys singing & dancing. Sathyapriya Senthil completed her B.Sc., in Chemistry from Periyar University, Salem and M.Sc., in Chemistry from Mother Teresa Women's University Kodaikanal, Tamilnadu. Sathya joined our lab for her Ph.D. in July 2020. She is currently working on studying pyroptosis in inflammatory disease using electrophilic small molecule inhibitors of Gasdermin protein. Mohammed Isfahur Rahman got a master's in research and a bachelor's in industrial biotechnology from Anna University (ACTech Campus), has channeled his research passion into a Ph.D. program at IIT Kanpur starting January 2023. He is currently focused in identifying potential small molecule ferroptosis modulators for treating osteoarthritis. Isfahur's enthusiasm extends to unraveling drug mechanisms to hinder the progression of diseases. Beyond academia, he values maintaining a balance between work and life, staying active through badminton, exploring various cuisines, and indulging in series during his leisure time. Santhosh completed his integrated MS in Biomedical Sciences from Bharathidasan University, Trichy, Tamilnadu. He then joined our lab as a project associate in Jan 2023. He is currently working on small molecule screening for the identification of anticancer therapeutics targeting ferroptosis, and he is an expert in handling mass spectrometer for mass spectral protein modification analysis, proteomics and lipidomics in our lab. Uttej Sai Krishana has completed his Bachelor's of Science from Andhra Loyola College, Vijaywada, Andhrapradesh in the year 2019. Then he perused a Master of Science MSc in Chemistry from NIT Surathkal in the year 2021. After graduating, Uttej worked as a Research Associate Scientist at Syngene International Ltd., Hyderabad for two years until 2023 and then, joined the department of Chemistry, Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur in Aug 2023.
